They do have some really lovely people working at S and S, and I would never
say different. But nobody has a real hand on Braille there who actually
works in-house. They engage people to do Braille training around the
country and, if this works, then that's their prorogative. I still think
there is no substitute though for someone with a proper working knowledge of
Braille being able to test out equipment and being employed on the premises
for a company for whom its merchandise is intended. It's just my view,
nothing personal, no offence intended. I just feel very strongly about it
that's all.

Anyway I wish Will well in his quest to get the right display for him, and
if this ends up being a Focus, then so be it. At the end of the day, I am
happy with what I have and that's what matters.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

No blind employee to test out their equipment!

How short sighted is that!

Cheers

Dave

You mentioned Sight and Sound Glenn, I did not. But, whether you like it or
not, people don't care for Freedom Scientific, and that is unfortunate for
you as their main UK dealer.

I know ATW will usually go with the cheaper option and that it happens to be
the Focus in many instances. But people do have a right to contest this
view if they feel the display doesn't suit their specific needs. I have
heard you take the view that one display feels much like another, but this
is simply not true for lots of reasons.

Freedom gave me the run-around over my PowerBraille not working when they
decided to remove the serial component from its driver from JAWS 11 and
above, and I would not buy a Focus on the strength of that alone, far less
put up with its limitations and ergonomic design not being suitable for me.

It isn't anything personal, and I am not questioning the support Sight and
Sound offers, even though you don't have a resident blind employee there to
test out your Braille hardware.

Diplomatically put Jackie, but Sight and Sound Technology are not Freedom
Scientific and we do our level best to look after our customers,
irrespective of Freedoms' view of life.

The Focus 80 is £5995, but does not have all of the features of some of the
other more expensive displays. It is reliable and does a good job for those
who have purchased it.

Regards
Glenn

Hi Will

Let me just put it as simply and as diplomatically as this. Alva and the
dealers who sell their products are not Freedom Scientific and the way they
work. It's a bit like buying a car I suppose. Some are better than others,
and the more you spend, the better it's likely to be. I don't want to get
into a cost debate, it's all been said and we all have our views on it. I'm
merely pointing out that you could say to your assessor that you want
something else for whatever reason you have the imagination to come up with.

If you are getting a Focus, then good luck if that does what you need it to
do. It's an ok display, but not for me.
