Hi William.

Good question, and one I didn't think to put to my contact, however I'll be ordering one anyway on launch day, so hang in there and I'll ask the question.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi John, Will and everyone else interested.

I've just had a chat with my contact at Sky who is a senior manager in the Sky Accessibility team. The Sky Talker is an auxiliary box which you plug in to your existing sky setup. Its compatible with the standard and plus boxes though not the HD unfortunately. It will provide voice output similar to that on the freeview box recently released by the RNIB, though to summarize this includes channel and program information including channel number, program name, channel name, duration etc. You can also access the sky setup menu and electronic program guide, set up reminders with the standard box or recordings with the plus box and adjust the volume of the synthesized speech independently of the programming. The box is going to be launched on the 26th of October with limited stock availability and there is a one off cost of £45 to buy the equipment on a self install basis.

All the best, Ibrahim.
