Eleanor,Firstly, would you be willing for me to forward your last message to the Manager of the Disability Resources Unit?
I am by no means senior in the University. I just happen to be a tutor on the MBA programme and work for the OU Business School. I would be very happy to speak to you anytime and will write to you off -list.
Kind regards, Denis----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor Burke" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I have been receiving pdf files for some years now and each year I get the Adobie 6.0 My next year starts in February 2009, it will be interesting to see what version is attached to my pdf files. Another very interesting thing about the Open University is that while they take great care to provide alternative format books, I am doing a course where there are very big hefty tombes of over thousands of pages per book. These books are available electronically yet the Open University will not provide them for disabled students, say it has to do with copyright and so we have to find a reader when we could read the books ourselves!!!! of course we can purchase them, the electronics ones. Maybe it would be good to talk to you if you are in a senior position at the Open University. Eleanor----- Original Message ----- From: "Denis Tocher" <dentoc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

AsI work for the Open University I was interested in this thread and pursued the matter with the University's Disabled Resources Support unit.It would appear that Adobi 6 has been sent out in error and the unit is now providing the latest version to students. Should any student on this list require help on the issue please contact the unit (with personal identifier) at:disabled-student-resources@xxxxxxxxxxYou may also wish to know that considerable work is being undertaken by the Universityto improve the range and accessibility of document formats through the use of structured content, which from a single production format, will deliver multiple outputs (including html, word and DAISY). Aligned with this activity is the Digital Audio Project being undertaken which is described at http://www.open.ac.uk/disability/digitalaudioproject/ Regards, Denis----- Original Message ----- From: "George Bell" <george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, November 02, 2008 2:09 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: adobe reader 6 I'm not surprised at the Open University here Eleanor. They are probably being advised by the same assessor who deals with you! I am studying at a university and they provide Adobie books for visually impaired and print handicaped (as they call it!) and the version of Adobie they are giving out even in 2008 is Adobie 6.0.!
