Alistair, my cable box is in my bedroom, and is not connected to a tv set, but is connected via a splitter to my broadband cable connection. This way, I can listen to the tv/radio channels, and this is why I wanted to add external speakers,

Hi BillyAssuming your cable box is attached to your tv ? Most modern tv's will allow you to plug in extra speakers?or am I missing something as usual!
