Yes, I agree David, I prefer unabridged. I have emailed Audio Books to check if the books are abridged and how easy it would be for a blind person to access the books. I agree with Ari, but there are people who are not into downloading books and lets face it, twenty pounds is not a great deal to pay to give a person who loves books a practical and enjoyable present.

Mary,

I think the recommended price is £24.99 but amazon are seling them cheaper. There appear to be three books on each player, all by the same author. Not
a bad idea, but I would prefer one unabridged book rather than three
abridged titles.

Hi David,
Sorry I missed your message about this one. Just came across it earlier
whilst browsing the audio book shop..
Maybe this one being more expensive means they were not abridged. I will
try to find out more about them.

I wrote about this on this list a month or so ago. I have not seen one
though so cannot review the machine. I think amazon were selling them for
just over ten pounds. I am almost certain they were abridged, which puts
me
off rather.

It's just occured to me that someone did a short review of this book
collection a year or two back on Access World.

Try ferreting around at:

Sorry, haven't time to track down the exact whereabouts of the
article.

Hi,

Has any one on the list used the following?

Audiobooks on the move! This is a new, portable way to listen to audio
books - just
plug and play! Macmillan Digital Audio are delighted to introduce a
brand
new format
for audio book lovers everywhere. Word Play is an incredibly light and
portable pre-loaded
player which means you can 'plug and play' your favourite audiobooks
anywhere in
the world. The player runs off a standard AAA battery so they are
easily
re-chargeable
and they come with a free set of headphones so you can start listening
to
your audio
books straight away.
The James Herbert collection of books was almost twenty pounds but
they
had most of his really well known ones on this one unit. If anyone
has used
one, a description would be good. I can see it being a good idea for
people
who do not like downloading books. I didn't think it was a bad price
either
considering how many books were there. I wondered how easy it would
be for
a blind person to navigate between books.

Regards

Mary
