Many thanks, Steve. The clue seems to be in your last sentence. I had wrongly
assumed
that in the View Tab the second button (Full screen) was what I needed to get
what in Word
2003 is described as Normal. this button seemed to do nothing - the Print
remained
selected.
However if I tab several times further to the Draft button and press spacebar I
seem to have
what I need.
I didn't actually try the short cut because I had set it up to launch an
application and would
have had to change that assignment to avoid conflict with the Word hot key.

I just wish that Microsoft had not made apparently unnecessary changes in
terminology - e.g.
Normal to Draft!
