Or
www.jart.co.uk

This has a very light footprint and would do the job if you just want to
simplify your writing and style. It doesn't carry the bells and whistles of
Word, but works the same and loads very quickly.

This will do what you want, for free:
http://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable - although I don't
know about the accessibility of LibreOffice though.
Widely used, I've been using it's predecessor, openoffice, for 6 years.
Completely compatible with office, and this version can be run from a memory
stick, no install needed

Netbook... does anybody know where a cheap version of word cab be obtained?
I have seen a few cheaper copies of Office 2003, but am I to assume that one
cannot open documents created with Word 2007 or 2010? or, is there a
downloadable ?thing? that allows compatibility?
