Hi Chris,
I've heard foobar2000 works under Windows 7 which will satisfy me as it's my primary media player. I'm going to try winamp when I can fix my DVD burner to install 7.

Good points I agree with.



I have to say that for the first time in ages, I'm actually excited about
what we could end up with.



A couple of other things i've noticed are;



* Media player 12, while accessible, does not work with many of the JAWS
shortcut keys at present,
* Music seems to be taking ages to play once media player has opened. I
thought it was maybe downloading a codec or something but this problem
still remains,
* the sticky notes feature is pretty good and useful and is fully
accessible,
* performance continues to improve and impress,
* Word pad has the office 2007 ribbon bar instead of the old menus now and 
I think the ribbon bar is the way they are going for all their new apps
now
* windows update and many other parts of windows seem much more
accessible, not least the fact that tick boxes in windows update and in
other places seem to work as expected unlike with Vista,



I'd be interested to know if people think it useful for those using the
beta to keep posting their comments as we have been, or do you think we
are clogging up your inboxes.



I've actually now started using windows 7 for almost everything and leave
that running instead of Vista it seems that good.

Please bear in mind that those of us talking about Windows 7.0 are
talking about a public beta version of which there are restricted
numbers (some 2.5 million across the world and there has been heavy
interested that delayed the post on Friday).  The software is not yet
fully complete and although you will probably hear good reports about it
there are still rough edges some of which I have encountered.



I would say that for average users out there who depend on their machine
working especially with their access technology to hold off doing
anything yet.  Those people testing should really have a spare machine
powerful enough to do it justice rather than put it on anything they
depend on.  It is quite likely that Windows 7.0 will be released to the
public well before the year is out.  Some are talking about before
August anyway.  Microsoft have more or less explicity said this is THE
BETA not one of a sequence.  Therefore release to manufacture can only
be a matter of months away rather than half a year or even a year.



I will stick my neck out and say that if you have VISTA now and you do
eventually decide to go for Windows 7.0 that you will not want to keep
VISTA.  This isn't because it is fundamentally different but mainly
because the whole experience feels a bit more efficient.  It is more
like Windows VISTA Reloaded and re-touch but it does make such a
difference even so.  Hardware detection has been very good for me and
after initial install on a Sony laptop which is not the easiest machine
to get going left me with far more of the machine working than I had
running from an OEM VISTA install.



I would always do a clean install, upgrade installs are clever but
usually come undone sooner or later.
