Hi Steve,
I think the leep forward has come from a very determined, and ruthless CEO in
Steve Jobs. His tantrims in product prototype meetings within the company are
legendary.
There was one meeting where it was the only prototype hardware model of an
iPhone. They were showing off the touch-screen. Thing is it was plastic, and
he wanted non smudge glass, that would only respond to skin contact. He took
it, walked across the office and dropped it in to the fish tank.
We've had innovations before, but very few with the drive and determination of
Jobs.

Agreed Peter however, a couple of thoughts. 1 I wonder if this technology
could be implemented into an actual pc or if Apple may add it to their mac
computers? Also, just think of the actual potential of this technology. What
about controlling appliances in the home? Security automation? Looking after
old people or even children? Could it eventually replace the likes of care
line?
Thinking about it on a more cynical level, how closely could apple, or
respective other companies, monitor the things we do? Our activities, who we
talk to etc. I know there is already the technology to do most of this but
hey, what a leap forward in technical advancement. A little closer possibly to
the likes of big brother and Skynet eh? If one was even more cynical and
perhaps watched too much x files and startrek, where the hell has this leap in
AI and voice recognition come from?

The recognition of Siri is fantastic and far exceeds other voice recognition
systems I have used. It’s still not perfect but pretty much!

thanks ibram firstly how good is the speech recognition. I heard that as it
was just a trial version of siri that it did not always identify voices. could
a totally blind person use it to it's full capacity. I should be grateful for
yourfeelings about this.
