Colin,

Good work, and credit to both yourself and Thames Link.

Subject: [access-uk] Web design accessibility

Hi,

Some months ago there was talk on this listabout web design accessibility,
and I remember that a few contributors had some useful anecdotal evidence of
organisations and companies that were prepared to listen and take 'on-board'
suggestions that improved the accessibility and user experience for
usability.

Recently I had some difficulty with applying for a Thames Link season ticket
and completing the season ticket application form on line. Although the site
had been awarded the dubious 'See it right' award, there was a fundemental
flaw in this particular stage of using the site.

The season ticket application form was available for download in a PDF 'read
only' version and was therefore impeding barrier free access to it's
completion for print disabled and dexterity disabled persons.

I brought this to the attention of Thames Link, and after the inevitable
customer service approach of unwillingness I eventually persuaded them to
see the problem from an accessibility point of view,

Within 7 days they had changed the season ticket application procedure so
that I could complete it, print it and take it along to my local Thames Link
station.

I know it isn't a particularly earth shattering piece of information, but it
demonstrates that through some constructive and positive dialogue
accessibility can be achieved.
