Hi Ibrahim,
I know I paid £200 for a talking microwave on its own.

Hi Mo.

My only concern though is the price. Have you seen the talking combination microwave oven and grill as sold by Cobolt Systems? Fully accessible yes, bloody expensive yes also. The same machine with a touch screen panel can be had for under £100, Cobolt want nearly 270 quid for their machine. That's why I was banging on about the merits of a universally compatible adaptable panel as in bulk they'd be cheaper to produce and could fit a wide array of appliances, not necessarily just washing machines and tumble dryers. I guess this is all wishful thinking though, there's far more money in Braille displays and computer technology than there is in white goods and everyday essentials.

All the best, Ibrahim.

A talking washing machine would be wonderful. Also talking tumble drier and dishwasher.

Hi Dave.

There are some internet connected washing machines out there on the market, you can connect them to your WiFi network and through either a home network or internet connection control them. They aren't cheap mind. It does beg the question though, why are manufacturers pumping out ever more sophisticated note takers and other assistive technology gadgets yet no one has actually produced a talking washing machine and so on? I'd personally love to see a prototype control panel which can be fitted to machines which provides full access to the vast array of features present on today's modern kitchen tech? There are already touch screen washers and cookers on the market and who knows what the future holds, but I doubt it will be very blind friendly.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Jackie,

You want a reliable Washer/Dryer, try Miele.

Now what would be nice, is if manufacturers, whose machines have
bluetooth technology, like Miele, would be for them to provide a mobile
App to operate the machine.

Cheers

Dave

Hi

Firstly, I wouldn't recommend a combined washing-machine come dryer, but
that's through choice and experience of their unreliability.

On its own, we have a Bosch washing-machine. What I like about it is
that it has a dial that has a tactile pointer or arrow pointing to the
top when it is off. If you turn it clockwise once, you get a 30 degrees wash. Turn it again and you get 40 degrees. Turn it again and it goes
up to 60 degrees, and so on. There are other fancy buttons on it that
may be programmed for holding a spin etc, but it's good in that you can
count the clicks, feel the arrow, and know when the wash is finished
because of some bleeps that persist for quite a while. When you've put
your washing in the drum, shut the door, shoved your powder in the
drawer and turn the dial to the heat you want, you press a small button
which then bleeps. This tells you it's ready to go, and then you hear
the water filling up. I don't know the model number, but it is a
washing-machine only, and quite a high spin-speed.

Kind Regards,

Subject: [access-uk] Washing machine recommendations

Hi,

I'm thinking of purcashing a washing machine. Do people have any
recommendations on any specific make / model I should go for? I'm not
all that familiar with washing machines but would like one with a dry
facility.

Thanks,
a
