No problems, Jackie. Re Skype phones, they're simply a microphone and speaker
in the shape of a handset! Well, they can get a little more complicated than
that as some come with a keypad to dial Skype phone numbers directly from the
handset, or even as sophisticated as they can be linked to the internet
directly to use Skype without the need of a computer. I'd say try Skype with a
microphone and a usual headset for now, and if you like Skype so much that you
become a real Skyper then look into Skype phones!
BTW, Skype works very well with Jaws 7 and later versions even without the
scripts.
Cheers,
Amro

Thanks Amro.
Could I ask another really stupid question please? What is the difference
between using a microphone for Skype, and a Skype phone? Is it just so people
can say they are talking on a phone, or is there something else more pertinent
to having one?
Many thanks indeed.
Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Ok. launch Skype. When it's up, it will ask you to sign in using your Skype
name. If you don't have one, you can create a user name and choose a password
from that same dialog box. Now if all goes well and you're signed in, you need
to add or search for Skype users using their Skype names or email addresses.
Both the search and the add users options can be found on the tools menu. Once
you've found the users you're looking for and added them to your contacts list,
just highlight a contact, right click and choose to start a call, send a
message etc.
And ah! Don't forget to hook up your microphone first before you start
ringing people! *Smile*
This is only a quick run of the prog, go for it and if you're stuck, please
write back...
HTH,
Amro

Subject: [access-uk] Using Skype
Hi All
I wonder if some of you more knowledgeable on this subject than I could
please tell me how to start using Skype. I have two nieces who would like to
communicate with me using this method, but I have never used it before. My
Vista laptop appears to have a Skype icon on the Desktop, but I haven't even
launched it before.
Apologies if this subject has been covered in depth previously. But it
is impossible to remember everything when it isn't applicable to you at the
time.
Many thanks for any suggestions. If you would rather Email me off list
then that's fine.
Jackie
