Main thing really, in my opinion, that jaws scripts do is that you can mek jaws tell you who signed in on skype. There are a few other commands/hotkeys. For example, you can press ctrl+shift+o and it'll read your entire contact list telling you who's online, away, ETC. You can also press ctrl+shift+I to find out techincal info about the call ifno, like duration ETC. You can use alt + 1 ETC, like in windows live messenger to read messages. I definitely think that most things that scripts do are really not esential and not that significant, as I say the main thing for me is being able to hear who signed in and out, otherwise skype can be very easily used without the scripts.

What do the jaws scripts do that we can't do with window-eyes or NVDA?----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 10:56 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Using SkypeHi Doris,But the scripts access the Com object of Skype directly, which does cause itto bring up that alert. Use your jaws or invisible cursor to find the information as to whichprogram is trying to connect to skype. alternatively you can virtualize thewindow with insert+control+wand copy its contents to the clipboard to paste into a mesage to the list.Programs that would connect to the skype api and make skype ask for permission are, for exampel, SKREad, answering machine programs for skype such as SAM and Pamela, etc. hth Doris At 02:52 PM 1/30/2008 +0000, you wrote:Hi Jackie, I believe this is the JAWS Skype scripts. It is telling me that another program wants to use Skype, and do I want to allow this, allow it but ask later, or not allow it. My feeling is to go with the latter because JAWS isn't telling me what the other program is, and says there could be a security threat if I allow it. But I don't want to disable something else that might need to use it, if you see what I mean. Any suggestions please? Many many thanks to everyone for their help. I wanted to do this on my own so closed my eyes, held my breath and did (smiles). I'm not a great installer of programs if all is working, but I've been curious to try out Skype and felt the only way to ever know what it's like is to get on with it.
