It has happened to me with laptops in the past Chris. I use Supernova, perhaps Hannah uses Jaws. The only way I could overcome it and now avoid it is my changing the hybernation setting to none.

Subject: [access-uk] Unusual problem with laptop

Hello all,
Has anyone heard of the below.
Hannah put her Vista laptop to sleep. When she woke it up the entire machine froze and she can't even power it off, despite holding it for more than five seconds. Never heard this before and it's quite worrying. I've just told her to let it completely discharge.
Thanks in advance for any help regarding this.
