Hi Andrew,

Sorry to hammer on this, but which one is the edition that can be run from the CD? Is it the same one that can be installed? I could find two editions, the desktop one and the enterprise one which I very much doubt is the one I should be looking for :). As well, how do you choose to boot from the CD without sighted help?

Any help is very much appreciated,
Amro

Hi Darren,

When you boot from the CD, just listen for the disk spinning down, that will
be you at the boot menu. Do F 5 then 3, this will activate Orca.

If Orca doesn't load, once your on the desktop, Press ALT + F2 to bring up
the run box, type orca and press enter.

I have only run Ubuntu direct from the CD so far, and I had access to the
internet etc with no problems. I plan to install it on a machine tonight.

HTH

Hi Andrew

A while back I downloaded Ubuntu and burned the ISO file to a CD, but never
got around to trying it.

I have heard that there is accessible software built into Linux but don't
know how to invoke it once Ubuntu has booted up.

Could you give a quick summary of what to do once you've booted up from the
CD in order to get magnification and speech working.

What I would ultimately like to do is have a dual or maybe even a tri-boot
system with XP, Vista and Linux. Probably a bit ambitious, but will be
interesting to try.

Thanks in advance
Darren.

Hi All,

If anyone is interested in trying Linux, Ubuntu may be worth looking at.
It
has built in screen reader and magnification.

The really interesting thing is, it can be run directly from the CD. It
is
just a case of booting from the CD, and it will not affect your windows
installation.

The URL is: http://www.ubuntu.com/

About Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is
perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the
applications
you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software,
instant messaging and much more.

All the best
