Yes, George, I have, successfully but as you say, at 1.1 speed, which was
rather slow.

I hate to disagree, Chris, but you can usually connect USB 2 devices
to a type 1 port, but will only get USB 1 speed.

No. However a USB 1.1 device will work on a USB 2.0 port. They are
backwards compatible. But not the other way round.
