Steve, Yes, I think that's the thing - they wanted me to have a PAYG and I wanted to take out a contract. They would do contract but at a higher price than I'd expected because of course they base the sim on the type of phone and what you're doing with it. As they no longer sell the 6600 they base it on the 6630 and the lowest tariff they would offer me was £25, for which they offered more texts and free time than Mike would need. Thanks for clarifying the legality of unlocking phones. I will not do this unless I feel I have to and certainly am a little reluctant to do it online myself. Cheers. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steve Nutt Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 11:25 AM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: UNLOCKING PHONES AND PURCHASING SIM FOR CONTRACT Hi Carol, Why won't Orange sell you a sim? They sold me a sim only pack, although it was on PAYG, not contract. But to get it unlocked, go to an independent phone shop, such as The Link, they may unlock it for you, or we have a market stall in Stevenage that will do it for a tenner, so you may have a market locally to you. It is common to find people who will unlock phones in markets. Finally, if you want to risk it, there are sites on the Internet, just put unlocking phones into Google, where you can do it yourself. Be warned though, if you do it wrong, you can sometimes render the phone completely useless, so be very careful if you do decide to go this route. By the way, for those interested, unlocking phones is perfectly legal, but the phone operators such as Orange, really don't like you doing this. It is currently locked to Orange with a current copy of TALKS installed, the licence of which is being transferred. Can anyone give me advice on the best places to go to unlock the phone for all networks and purchase a sim for use with a monthly payment plan and not "Pay as You Go". (Orange weren't exactly helpful on this yesterday and didn't want to sell me a sim without a phone.) If I use an "unlock" code myself, am I likely to lose speech or have to re-install TALKS and/or the phone's software afterwards? Any help from those who know these things would be much appreciated on or off list, thanks. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
