Carol, softkey 1 is the one to the left of your arrow keys, which is usually assigned to Messaging or something like that. It's the key you normally verify an ok with.

Andy,

Which key do you mean by "soft key 1"? I'm persevering with this though still finding it a little fiddley when it comes to adding words to the dictionary.

Hi Carol -

Predictive text: Once you have this setting turned on, you can cycle
between it being on and off by 2 quick presses of the hash key. When
you have predictive turned on, just start writing your message, but
only press each key once, so to write hello, it would be 4 3 5 5 6,
and you can type as fast as you like, because your not cycling
through the letters. If you have TALKS set to speak words, then it
will say the word it thinks you want, and if it's selected the wrong
word from it's dictionary, then [and you have to do this before
putting a space after the word] press the star key to hear a
different word, each press of the star key will bring up a different
word, these words will only be made up of the number of letters you
originally keyed in, and only words that can be made up from the
letters attached to those keys on the key pad. When you hear the word
you want, just press the zero for a space, and it will have been
inserted, and you can carry on. If when pressing the star key brings
you back to the first word in the list, and you haven't heard the one
you wanted to write, then press soft key one, which will temporarily
take the keypad out of predictive text, allowing you to type in the
word in the usual long handed way; once you've done this, and before
hitting zero for a space, press soft key one again, to accept the
word, and put you back in predictive text mode.

Writing this out, and no doubt reading it, sound like it's a lot of
trouble, but it really isn't, and I find that pretty much most of the
time, predictive text gives me the word I want, and only a couple of
times in a text message, might I have to either cycle through a short
list of words to get the one I want, or have to insert it the long
hand way. You can still use punctuation in the usual way when in
predictive text too, but this time, before you press the star key
twice, you need to put a space after the word, doing this will still
put the punctuation sign where you want it. Oh and yes, you can still
insert numbers with predictive text turned on by pressing and holding
the key for a second.

HTH -

Andy

Yeah, whilst we're on that subject ... how do you switch to a series
of numbers in the middle of a text message and can anyone explain to
me again, please, about predictive text? I want to have another go
and see if I can master it this time!

Thanks.
