I suppose the answer to that is the difference between one looking at it as
a job and as a part of life. It's certainly not a chore, and I can see the
benefits of networking with other people. Twitter is one way for me to
facilitate this. It of course also has the benefit that it allows me to
easily keep people I want to informed of what's happening in my life, or to
bring points of interest to their and the world's attention. Of course,
they're not obliged to read my posts, and I've no doubt many probably think
me the most uncool and boring person on the planet, which is their choice I
suppose.

It's the same as asking why I keep a blog, why I use Facebook, why I do
anything that isn't critical to daily bodily function 'smile' - heaven knows
if I did a little less, it might keep the insomnia at bay and stop me
feeling half dead all the time 'grin'.
