Hi Mike.

Well, since I've recently divorced and money is a little tight, I'll hold off for a time, but I've definitely got an Arial fitter in mind, so I'll be sure that when I do have the Arial installed both the Arial and coaxial cabling are of sound quality. In fact, I'll probably make the poor Arial man test my Freeview receiver, and if it isn't receiving every channel it's supposed to, give him a good dressing down LOLOL.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Ibrahim,

I recommend a loft aerial, if your reception is quite good.
I installed an aerial in the loft and ran a good quality digital co-ax down,
such as that used for Sky. This is important, as a lot of signal loss is
through poor quality co-ax.

I heard rumours that the digital broadcast was only on half output, until
the analogue signal was totally switched off, so if true, that should help
the signal for many.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Jackie.

I've just checked my region for digital switchover support and it looks like
I cant get help because my region has completely switched over. That means
I'll have to buy and have installed a loft or rooftop arial before I can buy
one of these boxes, so it looks like I'll be watching my TV online until I
can stump up the cash LOLOL.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Ibrahim

I'm going to throw in one other alternative here which I need to check out
before deciding where to go for ours. I received a letter this week from
the Switch-Over people regarding digital TV which contained an audio cd as
well as the same documentation in print.

Reading the letter suggests that they can provide a recordable Freeview
device for your TV. Naturally, this depends on whether you receive
benefits as to whether you are charged, and how much. But if this new
product can be supplied at a reduced amount, I will naturally go that route
if it is permissible. If not, then it will be RNIB for us as it's set up
out of the box.

But I thought I would mention this in the event that some people may still
have an opportunity to enquire with a view to purchase. Analogue is
switched off in Northern Ireland in October, and the letter categorically
states they can provide a recordable device for your TV, but note there is a
charge. I will ring them today and report back if people are interested or
are eligible?

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hi Ann.

It can be purchased directly from the RNIB for £179.95 from their online
shop or by ringing their customer services. Instructions are available in
electronic form from their website and they can also supply other formats I
think.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I have been using the Tvonics box for the past 3 weeks and absolutely
love it. Pretty much every feature speaks apart from the BBC Iplayer.
The box is

of course upgradable so it may well be possible for Tvonics to make the
Iplayer speak.

I really don't think this is a major downside as everything else on
the box is accessible. The speech is smooth and responsive, you can
add, delete and edit timers, You can series link tv/radio programs and
much more. When fast forwarding and rewinding you have audio feedback
as to how

far you have moved through the program.

A couple of years ago it was looking as if an accessible PVR would be
in the range of £500/600 but we have a box for almost a quarter of
that figure.

I don't think anyone will be dissapointed by either the features or
the performance of this box.

It's what we've been waiting for.

I am writing this from a personal standpoint rather than from an RNIB
sales point of view.
