Sorry Ron for giving the wrong message, I meant I was giving up for now, needed to eat and get some coffee. I find after spending a fair amount of energy on the same thing that won'T resolve, I run out of steam, and have to let go of it. There's nothing more I can do for today with this issue, so will leave alone now until I can try on another network -

Thanks for your encouragement, and all that are trying to help with this -
Andy

Come on Andy, you can't give up now. You will get there I'm sure. It is
frustrating at times but it is worth it in the end.

Cheers

Ron

Hi Ibrahim - So, none of that applies in this case. Completely stuck now.

One final thing before I give up. Can you say if having made a failed
password attempt, is it necessary to back out the characters from the edit
field ahead of having another shot at it? I have tried doing that just in
case, and of course, the Touch in that case just says delete, but not what
is being deleted, so I don't know if it makes a difference really? -

Hi Andy.

Well, the more info button is used if you need to enter settings specific
to your wireless network, for instance if you don't automatically allocate
IP addresses, your DHCP server on your router is switched off or more
typically, your connecting to a college or corporate network where you
have been given a specific set of settings unique to you as a student or
employee. The ask to join networks option is simply used when connecting
to the internet from a location other than your home or other location
where you haven't asked your ITouch to remember a WiFi network, such as a
public location like a bar or railway station. It'll prompt you whenever
you try to connect to the net whether you want to join a wireless network,
but if you don't, you need only hit the cancel button and the connection
will be cancelled.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Ibrahim, that accepted,, then I wonder what the 'more info' screen is all about. When I've got my network name highlighted, and tap the 'more info'
button, the screen that comes up has edit fields for IP, router, dsn,
something mask [can't quite hear] and also says "dhcp, selected, one of
three button."

Does any of this matter? -

I've also got the 'ask to join networks" turned on

Hi Carol.

No no, that shouldn't matter. The ITouch will automatically determine
the connection parameters, all you need to worry about is the key or
rather, entering it correctly.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Ah, Andy, the other thing is that there is a choice to be made about
what type of key you're using, WEP, SKP2 or whatever. Make sure that's
set correctly. (I'm not sure if I had to set mine or it was chosen
when the connection was seen, but I didn't run into a problem there
myself.)

Hi Andy.

The password you will need to connect your ITouch to your
wireless network is exactly the same as for your PC and
Kindle. You need to make sure that it is entered exactly
as it has been set, IE with capitals, punctuation marks
and so on if you use those as part of your key. Also,
depending on your router, you may have a limit on the
number of devices you can connect at any one time, since
some basic routing equipment, typically the junk boxes
some ISP's provide their customers with will only allow a
very few connections. You may wish to ask your ISP about
this if your still not having any luck, but if the
equipment is your own bought separately then the problem
will be elsewhere.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Marie - please don't feel asking the obvious is
patronising, it isn't too me anyway, sometimes I missed
the obvious, and other times I just don't have the
knowledge.
This was actually helpful, but hasn't solved my issue
yet.
You might be getting me there however, you see, I
thought the key or password I needed would be the same
one I use to connect my mobile or Kindle to my network
[Guess I still don't know the difference between WLAN
and WI-FI!]
It seems from what you say, I actually need some code
that is written on the router? I've got a note of the
'password' for the router, which is different to the
pass key I use to connect my mobile and Kindle to my
network
Since your message, I tried with this router password,
but still couldn't get connected. Incidentally, this
password for the router is one I created when I set up
my home network a few years ago, so I must have changed
whatever the default one was at the time.
Does this make sense? -

Andy

Not sure how to say this and not sound patronising so,
here it is: The code you must insert is not your personal password,
it is your WIFI key the code tied to your router,
written on it somewhere, usually in very small print.
Sorry if I state the obvious, but, to me at least, a
password and a WIFI key code are 2 different things:
the password allows you to change the settings on your
router, the key code allows other devices to talk to it
and hear it.

Good luck!
Marie

Hi Damon and Marie - Yes, airplane mode is off. The
Touch can see my WLAN, the name shows up on the
screen, and I double tap to select it, and that brings
up the screen with an edit field on to enter my
password, and this is where I hit a wall, as when I
type it in, and have had sighted help to do this too,
it says "connecting to..." then comes back and says
"unable to connect to..."
I'm able to connect a Kindle to my home network ok,
using the same password, but not this Touch. Any
further thoughts? -

I just use my wep number from the bottom of the modem.
Didn't have to do anything else.

I assume that in the wireless part of settings, you
have wireless turned
to on?

Hi all -

Bit stuck, I find my wi-fi name under settings, and
try to enter my password, but I get an unable to
connect message. Is there something else I need to
do, I ask because I Have seen screens asking for IP
address, and Router number, and DSN etc, do I need
these fields just to connect to my wi-fi, or just my
password? -
