Interestingly I was at an accessibility event last year on a panel being
asked questions. One of the questions from the floor was where are all
the discussions from blind people about technology. He couldn't find
them and, as a web developer, both wanted to take part and learn more.
My answer was that there is a mailing list culture within the blind
community. And a tendancy to come and ask a question rather than first
attempt to google. I think one is symptomatic of the other and if
questions and answers were better documented on the web then blind
people might be more enabled more easily.
Who knows.

Damon,
That's what I was thinking about last night. A BLOG or better still
WIKKI would better suit than constantly creating list after list. Were
most of the members don't are simply don't' know how to search archives,
(if the list keeps any), for common questions.
I think because we are so general here on access-uk we have a place for
some time to come but the model of the web has moved beyond email lists.
It's not dying tomorrow but it's an area that in particular Blind people
have become in some senses negatively addicted too. There's more than
one way to skin a cat and the argument that an email list is simpiler
for a newbee doesn't always wash.
