Well, yes Damon, and I thought it was likely you. You reflect my impressions, i.e. quite well laid out, not too cluttered. I wasn't
familiar with the old site.

As for alt-tags, well, maybe some blind people would like brief picture descriptions, although that all takes more time, so in this case not a serious omission.

It was me.

I thought that screenreader acces was particularly good on the new look
Independent site. I wasn't impressed with the way they have used lists
on the daily search page that you link to from the submit button at the
bottom of the screen.

The front page of the indy now really looks like a newspaper though with
a lot less clutter.

Who needs alt tags anyway.

As often happens on this list, orignal original sender isn't revealed, but its one of our contributers at the BBC.

The Independent site doesn't appear to be very comment worthy in any way
that a quick glance would reveal.

The only obvious shortcoming to me, as someone who sees a bit, is the
picture of the flat where bomb making equipment was found. No alt
description. I can see a rather cluttered balcony and one of the
windows has had a stone thrown through it.

Have another look when I've a bit more time.
