Hi tom and all, Here is an extract from an email to the Guide.Support list. I hope this offers ideas to assist with the site. Paul Benson. * * I have been on the telephone with a lovely lady called Stephanie and the tech people of Tesco. I told them the problems we were having when we shop at Tesco, like the button, down arrow key, plus more. Here is the reasons and solutions. On the web site there are settings and we have it set at STANDARD, we have to change it to KEYBOARD SETTINGS and then we will be alright, mine is done. The down arrow key only scrolls through the website, so to go down you have to use the TAB key, tab it to go down the food list, as the down arrow key just scrolls the website. The tech team are going to rectify the register button and some other buttons. Most tech people use a mouse and do not understand that we are keyboard users only. Good luck with your shopping. * * -----Original Message----- From: Tom - Email Address: tlorimer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent On: 18/11/2010 09:22 Sent To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Email Address: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Tescos online Why not report Tesco to the new venture being run by www.fixtheweb.net I'm sure that Tesco would be horrified to find out that their brand new accessible website isn't up to scratch. I can't say too much, as I had to sign non-disclosure forms way way back when, on the origional testing, of the previous web-site, but basically I got the impression albeit quite a number of years ago now, that Tesco haven't the faintest idea what they are doing, as regards accessibility. Alsot, this new site 'revamp', goes far far beyond screwing up the accessibility for disabled user's, (well blind user's ) and goes well into an utter fatiure of userability per sai. I've had quite a few comments now, from totally non-disabled user's, all of whom profess to prefering the original site as it was quicker to use and do their weekly grocery shop. Personally, speaking as en end-user, who's also vlind, I've just given up after a few shops and moved over to Sainsburrys... I'd not call it the most accessible site in the world, but its better than the new* Tesco site, and, well personally I prefer some of their products to Tesco's, though I'm pretty annoyed at having the choice taken away by the descision of Tesco.com to make their site pretty-much inaccessible.... In here you can change settings from standard (which is not a great experience with a screen reader) to either Low Vision or Screen Reader. Strangely, the low vision setting seems to yield best results for screen readers such as JAWS but then again, that may be a personal preference thing. Haven't played with the features extensively myself but thought I'd let people know so that they can have a play themselves... Regards.
