[access-uk] Re: Tesco

I think this is where we are seeing the problems with setting up an
alternative access site.

I'm assuming that Tesco feels that they have done their duty and have
perhaps not put budget aside to update the access website.

So, as time goes by and the main site is upgraded, enhanced and made
pretty amazing, the access site falls to the wayside.

But ... Then we see that the main site is actually more accessible than
ever before too! So, did tesco only ever see the Access site as an
interim solution?

But then we look at the publicity generated by Tesco's Access site. The
kudos, awards and column inches they received must have influenced other
websites to do similar. Other sites that may not ever intend to make
their main site accessible.

I'd take this to it's logical conclusion but don't have the time.

Has anyone tried using the main site recently? I used it to change my
Tesco
registered address (another thing you can't do on the Access Site) and
that
part of it certainly worked fine. I wonder if the screen readers are
beginning to catch up with the likes of Tesco. While I obviously think
sites should be accessible, I sometimes think that RNIB impose more
stringent access criteria than the average user would. Or are they
perhaps
concerned about people who rely on what's actually on the screen, like
users
of screen magnifiers.
