How do you subscribe to BT's reject anonimous calls? Does it cost?

I have been following this thread with interest.

Apart from being ex-directory and to TPS I have recently subscribed to BTs
Anonymous Caller Reject service. This last action has cut down the volume
of unidentified callers. However, there is a new wheeze by companies to
circumvent this service. They use a legitimate number to call you but when
you ring it you simply get a recorded message. The message will say
something like "We called you today but you were out so we will call back
again." This message is given even if you have taken the call from the
pesky salesperson.

Having done everything legitimate to stop these verbal spammers I am now
adopting the strategy of leaving them hanging on talking to themselves.
However, if they catch me on a busy day, they deserve the robust advice to
"s*d off!"

Regards.

Denis

Hi Barry

The problem with caller id is that most of the companies that do cold
calling withhold their number so it is impossible to differentiate between
them and friends/family who are ex-directory.

But if none has "Anonymous Call Reject" this stops almost all the junk calls.

As for friends and family that are who are ex-directory, "Anonymous Call
Reject" doesn't block calls based on whether caller is ex-directory.
It only blocks calls based on whether caller has withheld number,
either by using 141 or having Permanent Number Withhold.

Being ex-directly doesn't mean one's number is Permanently Withhold,
although many ex-directory customers choose to have that service as well.

Derek
