I must confess that I do like the "Anonymous Call Reject"
service from BT. It may not be perfect, but it does stop
many unsolicited calls.

Hi David

>1471 is 'caller withheld'.

No it's not, 1471 is to check number last calledm and also
to use caller return, service by pressing 3 while still
connected to ad71

to withhold number: it's: 141 followed by the number you
want to call.
This will prevent your number being available to the called
party.
However, I have found that if one has the "Anonymous Call
Reject" (ACR) most junk calls seem to stop! This is more
than likely because most of those sales callers are
withholding their numbers.

For the benefit of anyone not aware, The "Anonymous Call
Reject" (ACR) service (available from BT) enables one to
block all calls from callers that have 'withheld' their
number whether through the service Permanent Number Withhold
or by dialling 141 before they have dialled number.

Those whose calls have been blocked will hear a voice
announcement advising them to redial without withholding
their number. They are not charged for the blocked call.

Where a caller has used the 141 code, they will need to
redial the number without using the '141' facility and those
with 'Permanent Number Withhold'
will need to dial 1470 before they dial number.

>Ex directory means that your number doesn't appear in the
telephone
>directory, it does however remain in the telephone
listings.

Just to be more clear here.
One can choose to:

1. No listing in phone books directories but operator will
give out number.

2. No listing in phone books directories and operator will
not give out number.

Derek
