Is that true? Given the nature of the Stainsby, I don't see how that could be done. I know the St Dunstan's machine could be adapted for one hand. How many remember that one?

Of course Tony the Stainsby even had keys for someone using only one hand. Now bet you did not think I knew that! *smile*.Eleanor----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Sweeney" <deirton711@xxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, July 10, 2009 12:54 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Technology Now & Then for VipsHi Peter, Was wondering about the Stainsby myself! Could never get my head around that one! No joking but is it still used? I agree that Perkins does tick a lot of boxes and I do agree about it being a little heavy! Remember though that making that lighter may not have the robustness to fit in to my thoughts of then "the test of time". Don't forget too that although a product for vips has lasted 20 or more years do you think that it will last a lot longer and not just disappear in to the night!Good to know that at times that "the old" can live quite happily with thenew. Important this thread I feel too is too point out to younger younger listersof what went before, appreciating then the great advances in technology ineither small or capitals! Love to hear justt a bit more on this thread! Think that so far anyway the Perkins though is winning hands down! Anyway Sermon endeth for now! *smile* Cheers Tony----- Original Message ----- From: "JILLIAN GRANT" <geordiecompuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, July 09, 2009 9:25 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Technology Now & Then for VipsFunnily enough, on the BCAB list, they've been talking about Braillen print machines. But now the subject has moved on.Does this phrase ring any bells for anyone, baring in mind it wount soundright. "Ready master." That's what the thread's moved onto, the Vincent workstation. I used this so much in my primary school days. One more thing I've mentioned on that list. Did anyone own or use a Brother AX20 which had the speech box attached? I got 1 and as an immature 9 year old used to love to get it to swear. But the funniest one was its pronunciation of Hazel, Hazzel. lastly, who learned to use the Opticon? I tried and failed miserably with it. I actually had to train 2 fingers as my index finger had somesort of injury when I first started. Just as well that I did though. My fingers were just too sensative to the pins and they used to hurt after awhile. I wasn't very good at tracking with the camera either, and some lettters were difficult to decipher as well. was glad to give it up.they cost £3000, and those not in the know were convinced they'd be great when shopping etc. My parents had to go through charities to get 1, andthat was true for the AX20 too. I know there's the dymo gun, but I like to use all the contractions available to me and of course the dymo gun doesn't havethem all. I did try with the dymo tape and adaptor but the tape used tofall through no matter how tight I pulled it, so dots didn't come outvery well for me. I use the sticky back plastic sheets and get someoneto cut the lines out for me then I cut the labels. I write as manywords as I can on each line. that may be a few album titles or just 1.I still have my old tandy talking clock. It's 25 years old or so and I guess if I put batteries in it should still work. I don't though as ittakes 3. quaint and dated though it may sound, I love it. I used to have the sharp talking calculator, the 1 with the alarm and timer and all that on it. would love to have 1 of those again, plus the Sharp talking clock and the Vox talking watch, though I bet there's few of those left. They were so fragile.
