Hi Jackie and Steve - I am sure that there was discussion on one of the lists about 12 months ago about a talking heater control system in the USA. I haven't had time to Google it, and I'm not sure if it would be compatible with systems in the UK - voltages, AC/DC etc.
Steve, don't you sell a security system with a talking control unit? Would that company be interested in developing a talking heating control box? I would have thought that, at a reasonable cost, there would be a market...

Hi Steve Agreed. I love where I live and where I work, so non-talking thermostat or not, I don't want to shift unless circumstances deem it absolutely necessary. I want to find a solution to my problem with the heating display, and I reckon I will. I was just interested in work-arounds or suggestions from anyone like yourself who had done it. As I haven't done so yet, I'm going to approach my landlord and see what he says as the guy who does the maintenance for the flat suggested using something with speech if it existed. I thought of the Cobolt timer, but have no savvy as regards how it could be wired in, even if I am allowed to have it done at my own cost. Come on. We really need another form of segregation, don't we? I like where I am and I ain't moving ... Not unless my rent increases to an unaffordable amount. I'll work through this one somehow. If you go round checking out properties with less technically functional heating systems, you are liable to find something else that is complicated and not altogether visually impaired friendly. No! I'll figure out a way! (smile). I'm affraid this is going to be another increasing problem for blind people which is why I believe we need specific housing for all blind people to have as an option, but that's for the vi-genaccess list, not this one, so don't argue back on this list!
