Ian,

I saved this message which was posted to the BCT mailing list back in June.
It seems as if you can get Blackberry functionality by just using a
different piece of hardware.

Caroline.

I do have a fully accessible Blackberry device. It's a Nokia e62 cell phone
which runs Talks, but I am pretty sure Mobile Speak will work on it as well.
The Blackberry devices themselves can't be made accessible because they run
Java Micro Edition which doesn't have an accessibility API built into them;
however, to get around that, the makers of Blackberry have authored or
sanctioned (I don't know which) software called Blackberry Connect which
runs on third party devices such as the Nokia e62 and voila, you have
accessible Blackberry.

This device is a Symbian device, which doesn't employ a touch screen, but I
have seen touch screen PDA's running Windows Mobil and which work quite well
using Mobile Speak. I like my device because we use Blackberry Enterprise
server at work to get our email wirelessly and until I got this device,
other folks could get their email pushed to them and I was out of luck.

Now, I get my email pushed as well and can respond using a blue tooth
keyboard or the e62's little keyboard which works, but is slow.

Don barrett showed a completely accessible black berry on main menu, I 'm
sure about it because I was on the show with him that week.

Rick, I know nothing about mobile speak, but a touch screen will never
truly be accessible because of the ease in hitting the thing you do not
want when you can't see it.

Dan
