I would just like to say that, as an end user for many years of assistive
technology, I care passionately about customer care and support. Much of the
equipment we buy costs a lot of money, and it is important to know if a
particular piece of kit is right for you.

All I can say, without advertising, is that if anyone requires a demonstration
of the products we sell, you contact the office and ask for one. We try to
offer no-obligation demonstrations throughout the UK. Admittedly, there are
some far-flung places where going to demo a piece of equipment can be costly,
and we do try to make every effort to accommodate such a scenario.

In my role, I look after all the Braille products and K-NFB Reader mobile. I
have met so many people in the last year, and been able to put voices to the
names I have conversed with through Email over several years of being on these
lists. It's the customer focus and ensuring that a person gets what they want
out of technology that makes my job so worthwhile and rewarding.

I'm sorry Carol that you have had an unfortunate experience.

Hi Carol

You have my sympathy as I've been down that street as well. Several years ago I
wanted to buy a portable book reader and the one to have was the Road Runner. I
have a severe hearing loss and therefore hear mostly electronically. This made
me wary as to whether it would be suitable for me.
I phoned the dealer and was told the price etc. I explained my difficulty and
fears so would I be able to return it if I needed to. In no circumstances I was
told as the machine would be second hand. If it was unsuitable I'd have to find
a buyer to purchase it off me. What he didn't realise and was not interested in
listening to was that only the actual machine would be used briefly as I would
have used my own batteries out of courtesy and I never use head-phones ever as
they are of no use to me. My own induction loop would have been plugged in
instead.

Another list member agreed to meet me and allow me to try his. It transpired I
was unable to get on with it and never did purchase one. But the dealer in
question, due to his short sightedness and rude behaviour has lost a potential
customer for life. I would wait for hell to freeze over before I bought even a
box of matches from him in the future.

Hi all,

I don't exactly apologise for this post and I'll try to keep it brief!

I've just written about my recent experience when visiting the RNIB shop at
Judd Street for the first time a few weeks back ...

(I won't repeat here what I wrote there ...)

My quest to get a proper indepth demonstration of the Plextalk Pocket has
been exceedingly difficult ... and I've now decided to give it up.

Not only was I unable to get anything like a demonstration at the RNIB, but
I have declined to purchase the "Infotech" article. This was the last nail
in the coffin for me! I was told this would cost me £10 as I'm not a
regular subscriber to "Infotech" and you can no longer purchase individual
articles at a reasonable rate. I think £10 is too steep and, despite my
writing both Brian and Terry at T&T, I heard nothing from them.

Well, that's just too bad! It seems my quest for a recorder I'll really
like and get on with is just not to be!

Surely, it ought to be easier than this to get proper demonstrations and a
working knowledge of this high tech stuff for which we have to pay fairly
high prices anyway ...

OK - rant over!
