Barry, Whilst apologising for getting rather a long way from the main
purpose of the list, I would like to add that this thread has got me worried
too. Neither my wife (fully sighted) nor myself have passports or driving
licences. When goods are being delivered we have to arrange for my wife
to be at home to provide the signature as I can no longer do so. If this
requirement of proof of identity becomes more widespread I can see that
we can expect serious problems.

I wonder though whether I could in fact get a passport now anyway -
presumably some proof of identity would be required.
