[access-uk] Re: TEXTING LANDLINES

I wonder what happens if the person with the landline is not in when the
message is sent and they don't have an answer machine. With a mobile, the text
is not recieved until the mobile is turned on. A landline is perminently on.

  Hi all,
The following has just been forwarded to the BBC's disabled staff email
  list.

Did you know that you can send text messages to a landline? If you do
send one, then the next time a hearing person picks up the phone, they
need to be prepared to hear a 'robot' on the other end of the line!
Instead of reading the message, the recipient on the landline will hear
it spoken by a synthesised female voice.

The service - which is already up and running - is currently available
to users on the Vodafone; T-Mobile; BT Mobile; 3 and O2 Networks. You
simply tap a message out on your mobile phone as usual and then enter
the landline number and then send it in the usual way.

Texting a message to a fixed phone line typically costs around 10p, the
same price as sending one from some mobiles to mobiles.

I am sure you have had those occasions when you send a message to your
partners, work etc and they don't respond as they either don't have
their mobile on them; the battery is flat or the reception is poor -
well, this service saves time and frustration!
