Hi Andy, he'd need to log in to those sites again, but the information they
have about him will be safe, as they've already got it. As soon as he logs in
they'll know him.
Obviously it's important before clearing the cookies that he knows his
respective log in details for sites he uses.
                    John.

Hi John - I suspect he doesn't, as he's very much a novice, so I'll suggest
that to him, not that he browses a great deal. If he clears out all cookies,
he'll not be remembered will he, on pages where he shops, such as Amazon and
Tesco etc -

I'm guilty too of not deleting cookies, then again, my machine hasn't slowed
down!

Hi Andy, I take it he clears his cookies? If he doesn't over time that will
slow a system to a crawl.

Thanks Barry - this was for a friend, his machine has been running very
slow, as in taking ages to open a web page, or even the control panel, this is
why I thought the virtual memory thing might be the issue; I had him look
there, but although swap file by name wasn't there under
system\advance\performance, vertual memory was, and it had the number 575
against it, telling us we could extend it to a maximum of 776--not sure about
these numbers--anyway, it didn't help, perhaps is machine is knackered! -

        Andy,

You'll need to increase your Virtual Memory. In Control Panel. To set
these values, click System, click Advanced system settings , and then click
Settings under Performance. Typically 1.5 times your installed RAM is the
number most home-users need.

How much RAM do you have int hat machine? It may be an idea to upgrade.

        Cheers,

        Barry

Subject: [access-uk] Swap file help please

Hi all - Can somebody give me some pointers regarding the swap file for
an XP machine?

A message pops ups saying something about shortage of virtual space or
memory, and if I recall correctly, this is something to do with the swap file,
but I don't know where to access it, or what to do with it <smile>

        Help appreciated -

        Andy
