No worries pal. I found the message that Tristram sent in the archive and I'm copying it at the end. It explains why the disabling is needed. I don't know about S&S support policy, sorry.
Now what I did:-I have 9 different drivers in Sound, Video and Game Controllers. The one that had to be disabled was "ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01". I didn't want to experiment by disabling any of the 9 drivers; I was worried that I might lose the speech output all together and get stuck. So if you have a sighted help around, or you use brail display you'll be probably alright to experiment with the sound and video drivers. With Tristram's explanation below I reckon you'll figure it out on your own if one of the drivers is causing the problem that is.
