line in is for things like tape recorders, cd players etc. on some sound
cards i believe there is some doubling up of sockets to do line in and
microphone but I think on the Audigy there is a dedicated line in and a
dedicated microphone socket. Cheers

I'm new to the business of recording onto the pc from another device. Is
the line in socket the same as the microphone socket or does it depend on
the pc sound card, and whether it is or isn't the same, presumably you have
to unplug the microphone before you record from the hifi? Would appreciate
your thoughts.
