Dave, I'll answer your questions as you've asked them.
Am I right in thinking, they are accessed using html, and what is the default password?
Yes, the Sky Netgear router can be interrogated via a web interface. With the router connected in the normal way, you can access it by putting in the routers IP address which should be 192.168.0.1 Put this in the address line of Internet Explorer, remember though, don't put in any prefix, just the numbers. You'll then be asked to enter the username and password. Unless you have changed any of these then the defaults are:
Username: admin Password: sky
I cannot remember, whether or not I changed the password, and if I did and have forgotten it, how can I change whatever it is?
The problem lies if you have changed your password and can't remember it. As far as I am aware, there is no way to get in without it. You would then have to completely reset the router and start again with all the default settings.>
Once you get into the web configuration, you want to go to wireless settings. This is a link somewhere near the top of the page. You can then check and amend your security settings. I think by default, sky set up a 64 bit encryption system. I personally changed this to a 128 bit WEP key. One thing to remember if you do this, copy down the key when it is generated as you can not re see this later and, of course, you'll need it for any device requiring access.
