We don't have Sky repair plan to think we'll have to pay for new dish being
installed...need to look more into comparisons of sky and Virgin.

Thanks all anyway,

Cheers,

Phil

Though, to bring it back on topic, if you have sky repair plan, they will
move a dish and install for free, as part of the service, or so I believe.

Hi Phil

I didn't like them when they were Telewest, and found them more expensive
than Sky.

If you are moving, you will likely incur expenses for having someone come
out and install a new dish. They don't charge if you move without any
equipment installation. I think they want around £65 these days for that.

Hi Jackie,

A bit late in on tis I know but been reading the comments with interest.

We're actually due to move house soon and so will have to face Sky
re-installation etc. This is prompting e to check out other options e.g.
Virgin media.

I like very much the O2 broadband we've had for nearly 2 years now without
any hassle and a good service however I suspect we'll face same issues as
you trying to get Virgin to just let us have TV...

Anyway wondering what others experience are of using Virgin media for TV /
phone / broadband and any access issues with using their broadband service
etc.

Cheers,

Phil

I've also kicked Sky into touch. I had been thinking about going elsewhere
for my broadband for a while, but couldn't face the hassle. I got a good
broadband service off them, I'd no complaint about that. But I objected to
having so-called entertainment packages I never used. I only wanted sports
channels, but they wouldn't let me go down that route. They also wouldn't
let me drop all the TV packages and just have broadband as they claimed it's
heavily subsidised. So I said thanks but no thanks, and have just moved
over to BT Internet for broadband only, saving myself £35 a month. Thing is
that the odd quid here and there was just creeping up, so now the dirty deed
has been done! (smile).

Yet another reason why I'm lucky enough to have a British owned Virgin
system where I can record two programs while watching a third.

AND I am paying less than my son for a better service here in Northampton.

AND they upgraded my neighbour's 2 year old set top box at no cost.

Sorry, but I'm not a Robert Maxwell fan!

Hi Phil.

Sky themselves contacted me about this very thing a couple of weeks ago.
Here's a copy of their e-mail.

Sky Protect - Beware of imitations

It's come to our attention that a number of extended warranty providers are
contacting our customers claiming to be connected with Sky.

The only extended warranty plan officially approved and endorsed by Sky is
Sky Protect. It's provided and administered on our behalf by Domestic &
General, our chosen partner, one of the UK's leading appliance repair
specialists.

Any other companies are not approved or endorsed by Sky and we cannot ensure
the validity of any extended warranty plan taken out with them. Of course
you're free to take out a warranty with anyone you choose, but we advise you
read their terms and conditions carefully before making payment.

What to look out for

If anyone contacts you offering service contracts, protection plans or
warranty cover for your Sky equipment -

* Ask for the name of their company
(if they are not from Domestic & General they are not officially approved or
endorsed by Sky)

* Ask the name of the plan they offer
(if it is not Sky Protect, it is not officially approved or endorsed by Sky)

* Ask them to confirm your Sky account number, your box type and when you
first subscribed to Sky (only Sky Protect will have these details)
