Hi Peter,

If you don’t want the TV muted when the speech kicks in, just plug a speaker into the back of the Sky Talker. The TV sound will come through the TV as normal and all the synthetic speech will come through the speaker.

Regards.

Ian

Hi, OK been playing with this for a few hours now. I'm actually finding
I'm flicking through recorded programmes and channels to watch quickly
now so am happy I bought it. It does announce if something is audio
described when you press the info button. It announces the time every
hour and also announces the programme name as the next programme starts.
I've had a couple of times when it stopped talking but then began again
but not sure why. Even just being able to hear the channel numbers and
names means I can now quickly navigate to channels I like once I learn
the numbers. The only thing I don't like is that the speech talks over
the bleep which tells you a programme is audio described. Whilst the
unit is speaking the sound from the sky box is completely muted but I
would have prefered it if it just reduced the volume rather than
stopping the sky output altogether. The unit also says no audio output
when you go in to the menus so that's quite useful to know that the menu
has indeed come up.
Hope that helps.

Subject: [access-uk] Re: got my sky talker

Hi, just got my Sky Talker. There are basically three buttons. Two
volume buttons on the top right and one power button on the front
panel in the center. The box turns on and off automatically as you
turn your sky box on and off.
On the back there are two cables. One is a scart cable and the other
is a serial cable. The scart cable replaces the scart lead which goes
in your sky box. Then plug the scart lead from your tv in to the back
of the thing you just plugged in to the scart socket on your sky box.
Then plug the serial cable in to the serial port on your sky box. Mine
is to the right of the scart socket as you look at the front of the box.
Now your good to just turn on your sky box and it will work although
mine took a few seconds to start working initially.
To change the voice or it's rate hold down the power button until it
says entering setup menu. Then just use volume keys to change. Presss
power button once again to move to the voice speed and again use
volume keys.
Then press and hold power button to exit setup menu.
That's all there is to it.
It's not perfect. You hear the name of the channel,, programme name as
you move through channels. You don't hear any input about the recorded
programmes until you play them, at which point it tells you the
channel name and programme name. Press i and it will read the info.
Hope that helps.
