[access-uk] Re: Sky TV Freesat

Trace - with their packages, Sky use to insist on access through a phone line for the first 12 months of subscription - think it was part of a monitoring system as much as upgrades etc, so was wondering if with Freesat, this was still a condition.

Why should they? they don't update via the phone line, they do it via the satellite.

On the subject of Freesat, will Sky still insist on a phone socket connection for this installation?

Hi Andy,

Perhaps I/we are confusing things here.

When I mentioned an aerial, I was referring to the fact that
you said you had purchased a digibox, which did not work
when you got it home. I was asking if you had a proper
digital aerial for the digibox. I certainly found that the
normal aerial I had did not work, and needed to be replaced
with one designed specifically to received digital signals.

That said, I do know that some people have been able to use their digiboxes with a normal aerial, but suspect it has more to do with proximity to the transmitter, not to mention a major degree of good luck.

As far as Sky's Freesat is concerned, you do NOT require an
aerial, just the satellite dish.

Hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

George.

Hi again George.

You were asking if I had a digital Ariel? If Sky are giving
me a dish, why would I need an Ariel George? Does Skynet
require both an Ariel and a dish?
Sounds a good deal anyway. I'll need to try and find out
more. Good point about not charging if reception was not
assured eh?

Best wishes.

Hi Andy,

(I'd better say first that your HTML message came in as
black text on a black background.)

Yes, it does look like this is Sky's answer to Freeview.
However, at £150 flat fee, on the face of it, it appears
to
be a good deal.

What's more, THEY come along and fit it all up, so if it
doesn't work, they cannot force you to pay - can they?

By the way, do you have a proper digital aerial? When we
got our first digibox, we had to have the aerial replaced.

George.

Hi George.

Are you perhaps thinking of subscribing yourself? Pauline
and I have been thinking of subscribing to Sky but it's
the
£30 or there abouts a month that is stopping us. Is
Freenet
the same as Freeview only using a satellite disk? We
purchased a Freeview box for £50 from Argos only to
discover
that it didn't work in our area. But it really would be
nice to have a few extra channels. At the moment, we only
get 1,2, itv and 4.

Best wishes.
Andy
