Hi Deon,
It's comforting to hear an increase, because at
least you know the cooling system is doing its
job.
Of course newer systems are tending to use quieter
fans. And indeed you can buy "Quiet fans" if you
want to fine tune a slightly older system.
What also adds to the fan noise factor are plain
dirty fans. I recently refurbished a couple of
older PCs in our office, and of course cleaned the
fans. The difference was seriously noticeable, as
was the increased flow of air through the system.
