Hi Alasdair
If I'm really keen to know the contents of a tin with the Reader, I lie it on
its side and gently roll it round. It takes a bit of fiddling about, but I can
generally work out which way up the tin is in the first place. As I've always
said about the K-Reader, there is a knack to using it for trickier more complex
tasks.

Yes: the text is usually formatted into narrow columns, so one can align the
tin with the column towards oneself and read it without rotating. So if you get
lucky with your device you'll get all the text, and if not you should be able
to rotate to a position where you can get all the text in one scan.
The widest column on a tin of Heinz baked beans is about one sixth of the
circumference.
