[access-uk] Re: Should the format a customer receives Bank documents in be determined by the bank or the customer?

Oh no Tony you have misunderstood me I think. Like myself you are up late!

I wanted to purchase books from the publisher directly in PDF format as well as
purchasing the print copies in the shop, i.e. Waterstones. Each print book
costs £21.95 but the publisher was on initial enquiry prepared to conceed to
providing me with PDF versions at a price. I was looking for 5 books so three
were offered at £30.00 plus VAT and the other 2 for some very strange reason
were to be offered to me at £189.00 each plus VAT. Then a sudden change
around. The publisher would only sell to a university but I cannot get these
through the university as they are not part of my course materials. I am with
the Open University who do indeed supply us students who are visually impaired
with PDF course materials. I am in a catch 22 situation. Would like to have
the law books on my PC in PDF rather than in print format but I cannot have
them as a private individual. Now what a load of nonsense. They could always
get me to sign a legal document saying I would not sell to the World and then
if 'The World' did get the books they culd sue me but oh no, I must now do
without!

  Eleanor,

  See where you're coming from!
Perhaps there is someone out there that can advise of a conversion process
to text and all that.

  Keep on truckin!

On a similar subject, I was all set to purchase PDF files of law books from
a renown publisher, prices agreed etc, then suddenly the publisher turned
around and said I could not have them that they would have to come through
the University or College. I wanted them as supplementary course materials
and there is no way the University would authorise them. Now I have to do
without. Sad times. I think the publisher thought I'd sell the PDF files
to the World and put them out of business. They have mentioned something
about being prepared to discuss it with the RNIB, but I do not see anything
like that coming to fruition. The RNIB is highly unlikely to purchase a
liscence in order that I can have the books, however, that said if there is
anyone out there reading this who does know of a way around this, I would
dearly love to get in touch with you off list so we could discuss the matter
further. Maybe even someone out there who is reading law and might have
obtained such books as I am looking for please do contact me off list.
