Yes, I did have that problem with sygate, unfortunately I don't remember 
what program you need to let through but it is one of the windows core 
components that is being blocked which is causing the problem.  I did solve 
the problem but did not take down what it was you needed to unblock, but 
solution is definitely possible here.

I have both the SP2 firewall and Sygate running together and usually don't
have any problems with them.

The only problem I have is when I go to the Windows Update site.  If I scan
for updates, an error is displayed, and when I put the error number into
Google, the advice I get is to turn off Sygate when scanning for updates.
Strangely enough, I don't even get the usual Sygate warning asking if I
want to allow Windows Update access.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any other way around the
problem which doesn't involve turning off Sygate?  I know the SP2 firewall
blocks incoming traffic, but I don't know if I should really be totally
reliant on it while the scanning of the PC and downloading of any updates
is in progress.
