Hi George,
I don't seem to be able to find the look in field to verify what's in it.
Here's what I do and what happens:
1. I navigate to the folder where I think there'll be some pdfs in some of
the sub folders.
2. I press control f. JAWS says "Pictures, music or video button"; I press
tab; JAWS says "documents (word processor, spreadsheet etc) button". I
press space.
3. JAWS then says "Don't remember radio button checked zero items"; I press
tab; JAWS says "all or part of the document name"; I type *.pdf I press tab;
JAWS says "Used advanced search options button"; I press tab; "back button";
tab; "search button"; just to make sure, I'm tabbing round to see if I can
find look in, but tabbing after the search button gets back onto the list of
folders, then on to "toolbar close button".
4. So I press space on search button. JAWS says "stop button", then after
a bit "Yes, finished searching button" which I press space on.
5. Then there a few things like "Other places outline button expanded"
(whatever an outline button expanded is) and "desktop link". Then I get to
a list of files, but there are a couple of hundred and the first few I land
on/cursor down to say c:\documents and settings etc - and the folder I was
wanting to search was d:\ something.
Perhaps "look in" is in "advanced search options"...?

Hi Catherine,
Ctrl + f brings up another pane on the left which is the
same as the normal XP Search. However the "Look In:" field
SHOULD contain the folder name.
At least in certainly does for me here.
George.

Hello all,
Please can someone explain how to search for any pdf files
within a given folder in Windows XP?
On ME, I used to navigate to that folder using My Computer,
then press control f; then in the file name field typed
*.pdf. But it seems different in Windows XP - I navigated
to the folder, pressed control f; then pressed space on the
documents button; typed *.pdf and it searched the whole
drive.
