[access-uk] Re: Scanner for OCR ing text books

Hi Steve

Thanks, that's useful to know. I have seen the 4600 on Amazon and it cost about
£650.

Can you just clarify if the 3600 is an edge scanner? I seem to remember you or
someone else talking about it having a very small lip where the spine goes, or
is it just the casing around the edge ?

Cheers
Darren.

  Hi Darren,

Yes, the OpticBook is excellent, and I use it every day, and it sounds like
it is in your budget range. But if you go a bit higher, the 4600, so I am
told, is even better. It scans a page in three seconds, which is pretty
unbelievable. Again, I don't have one, and they are more expensive, but it is
the only other book edge scanner I know, other than the 3600, which is darned
good in itself.

  All the best

  Steve

Subject: [access-uk] Scanner for OCR ing text books

  Hi All

I'm thinking of buying a flat bed scanner and want one that will obviously
perform OCR, but not be too expensive.

I remember the opticbook 3600 being mentioned quite a few times on here and
our very own Mr Nut saying how good it performs.

Obviously an edge scanner would be the best option, but I don't think there
are any in my price range which is currently a few hundred pounds.

After reading the reviews for the opticbook it sounds like it performs
reasonably well and can apparently cope with shadowing that occurs near the
spine. So it sounds like it will suffice for scanning in text books.

If there is anyone on the list who owns an opticbook then your comments would
be most welcome, as at the moment it sounds like a good investment. However if
you know of an alternative that performs as well or better then I would love to
hear about it.

  Cheers
  Darren.
