Oh wow David, I didn't know that or I maybe would have purchased a BS when they first came out! Wondering if you pluged a mobile phone in could you read your SMS on the display? If so, what a far cheaper option for folks than the DBC which is Really outragious as I had over ten grand paid out for my total package which does include a full 6 years for both machines.
Thanks for the info and sure someone else will make use of this, I'll pass it on. Christine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David" <n.weston42@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Christine, I have a Braille Sense 32 plus and I have just found out that if I plug a qwerty key board into it through a USB port, then some one can then communicate with me by typing on the qwerty board and it will come up on my Braille display. This is going to be very useful for me when I am in a noisy environment. I didn't notice if she could read braille at all as I read what came on the display, she operated the companion and we chatted to each-other, her on the companion and myself on the mPower part of the DBC. I really enjoyed that, though it was hard not to "Chatter" as I tapped! lol There's so much more I want to learn, word processing, book reader, scientific calculator, copying and pasting and doing more than one thing at a time, along with so much more, I'm doubtful one day will be sufficient and my brains HD big enough to remember it all, but I'm certainly enthusiastic as one day, too soon, I shan't be able to hear any more and this piece of kit will be such a life-saver for me. I have an emailing group for DBC users or people wanting to know more, exchange ideas etc...I hope you'll get a DBC soon too, I think everyone who, like ourselves has no vision and a severe hearing loss, should be encouraged and helped to obtain the DBC. Regards, Christine.----- Original Message ----- From: "Derek Hornby" <derek.hornby_uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 05, 2010 6:21 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Sales and support staff's knowledage of brailleHi Christine No, I don't know Jackie, but having just Checked old emails I find it was Lucy Naismith that did my first Demonstration. I think she's sales manager for the North. Martin istraining manager. Were you impressed with DBC I love the idea of being abel to Send and receive text messages in Braille. I do understand that Martin Griffiths is a braille user as hewas originally coming to train me, but unfortunately became unwell...Maybe Stupidly in panic, I asked for a female as I'm no use at listening to a deeper male voice and wondered why I'd ever agreed amale for a whole day training, sure it would have been a huge strain on me--but now, I'm wondering if I'velet go of a Really experienced person? I hope you or someone can reassure me I've done the right thing for me? I understand all you are saying and I was surprised nobody can read Grade 2 Braille. But then just a sec, maybe not surprised! Few weeks ago I had a demonstration by Humanware of a new Package aimed at the deafblind. They call is DBC I think Stands for deafblind communicator. Anyway the lady that gave me the demonstration didn't seem to know Braille! And this caused some confusion! So after that failed demonstration Alan Davis came to me, Not toosure if he knows Braille, but he certainly was far better At explaining what he was showing me. I am now told the trainer will be a guy called Martin (I forget his surname) works for Humanware in UK. A don't think a sighted driver would be happy for a car Salesman to be a non driver, so to a point I agree There is a need for those that sell Braille displays, to know Both grade 1and 2 Braille. I do not accept the person must be blind, because there are Many sighted people out there that know Braille very well.
