[access-uk] Re: Removing ie9

Barry, thanks for the suggestions. I am going to wait until I have a bit of
sighted help here. I just tried doing the uninstall again, and although the
machine didn't crash, after the restart the ie9 was gone and the ie8 had not
been reinstated in its place. Ran system restore again and it got me back
to the ie9 installation. In the meantime I'll keep using my faster more
reliable xp machine!!

Mark,

One of these links for IE8 stand alone might work

http://www.webisee.com/2009/03/20/download-ie8-standalone-installer/

Failing that grab Firefox by using

http://www.ninite.com
Copy the exe to a pen drive, pop it in the broken computer, & it'll
download/install Firefox Wa la browser on that machine until you can get
IE8 sorted.

Barry.

Mark,

Just use the 'system restore' and take the system back to what it was before
you tried to uninstall IE9 the wrong way, then follow my suggested uninstall
in previous email.

John.

So the uninstall went ok until the machine crashed at the restart stage.
Now I have no browser at all, and can no longer run outlook as it needs ie
to function.

Now looking for a link to download ie8 on my old machine so I can install it
to the broken 64 bit machine.

Using the words
uninstall IE9
in Google, the first result is:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/how-do-i-install-or-uninstall-in
ternet-explorer-9

I've pasted the text below, but is there a particular reason to uninstall?
Web developers with a focus on VI and accessibility are hoping for a good
uptake of IE9 as it really moves the web forward in terms of accessibility.

To uninstall Internet Explorer

If you're trying to uninstall Internet Explorer because of an issue with the
browser, first check to see if a solution is listed in Internet Explorer 9
Help and How-to.

The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

Click the Start button , type Programs and Features in the search box, and
then click View installed updates in the left pane.
Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.

Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when
prompted, click Yes.

Click one of the following:

Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and
restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).

Restart later
