Hi Carol.

What a night. I was up until 3am trying to sort everything out. I managed it eventually. I was advised to use unclean to remove Norton as Add/Remove programmes in Control Panel had no option to remove Norton. However, when I attempted this, I was only allowed to uninstall one of the two components. After I did this however, I could not remove the other component or even turn Norton off again. I took Peter's advise and un-checked everything to do with Norton within my msconfig. Although I still have Norton installed, it has been turned off and I'm back to using Sygate and AVG. Perhaps if I attempt to uninstall Norton now by using unclean, it will work, but for the meantime, I'm just going to let it sit there. Unfortunately, I also restored my computer back 2 months last night so now have to reinstall a few programmes. Remind me in future Carol if I start talking about trying Norton again eh?

Best wishes.
Andy from sunny Kilcreggan.

So are you saying you can't remove Norton now from add/remove. How many
Norton components have you left to remove? What about LiveReg and Live
Update? (I think these should be removed before the main Norton
programme.

Hi again Carol.

No luck! I managed to delete the second file successfully, e,g. Live
Update
2.004, re-booted but still cannot remove the first file. I just know
that
I'm going to have big problems with this - Won't be the first time with
Norton. I'll probably end up doing a factory restore AGAIN, or forced
to
reinstall Norton and give up Sygate and AVG. Computing is really a love

hate thing eh?

Best wishes.
Andy

Andy,

I know there's a specific order you're supposed to uninstall but don't

know what it is. I think the main prog is last though.

Hi Robert.

There are 2 files associated to Norton; Live reg Symantec Corporation

and Live Update 2.6 Symantec Corporation. When I did an Alt A and
selected Add/Remove on the first one, I was advised by jaws that

Live reg Symantec Corporation cannot be removed at this time because
the following applications require this component: Norton Security and
Norton
Anti-Virus

I did an Insert F11 and noted that both are unchecked.

Any ideas please?

Best wishes.
Andy

Hi Andy,

When you've located the programme you wish to remove, hold down the
Alt key and press letter 'A.' A drop down list will appear. At the
top of
the
list is Change/Remove which is highlighted. Press Enter on it and
then

follow the instructions.

Good luck.

Robert.

Hi Robert and Kevin.

Thanks for the help guys. I've downloaded the programme from the
JFWLite site and installed it. When I run it, I ampresented with a
treeview
of
programmes and I can move up and down these, but how do I check the
two
Norton programmes which I wish to remove? When I land on each of
them
jaws announces unchecked and despite pressing the space bar, it
remains
unchecked.

Best wishes.
Andy

Hi Andy,

I had the same problem and was advised by someone on this list to
download and install a free programme called 'Unclean.' It did the
job for me and I've continued to use it ever since. You can get it
from:

http://www.jfwlite.com/programs.html

Good luck.

Hi all.

After trying out Norton for a few weeks, I have decided to go back
to
Sygate and AVG. I have turned Norton off and now wish to remove
it
from
my system. However, within Add/Remove, Norton has no box for
Remove

Programme. Just a single box saying Click here for Information.
Can
anyone please advise me how to get rid of Norton. I'd just let it
sit
there, but ever since turning it off, I get a DLL File not Found
warning
on boot-up.

Best wishes.
Andy
