Hi Hussein

Thanks for your reply. That gives me some idea on which route to take.

Take care.

Hi,

I guess it really depends on what you want to do. I’ll outline a couple of
options:

Facebook: Asks the question “Who do you know”. primarily for meeting new
people and building up a friend’s network. It also allows you to share things
about yourself including pictures, status updates, videos, etc. also, the site
allows you to connect with others through games, applications, etc. Facebook
have the main site at www.facebook.com, a more accessible version at
http://lite.facebook.com and a mobile site at http://mfacebook.com which you
may prefer for quick status updates, and to check those of friends.

Twitter: Asks the question “What are you doing”? Good for keeping up with
news updates from organisations, magazines, etc., and also for posting your own
updates. Often you get links to other sites where full articles, etc. are
posted. Twitter has a limit of 140 characters per tweet, so things are short
and simple. As well as Twitter.com they also have their mobile site at
http://m.twitter.com

Qwitter: A program you can run on your desktop computer which allows you to use
Twitter without going to the website. Useful if you use Twitter a lot or
aren’t that confident on the web.

Myspace and Bebo are other social networking sites but are all but dead.
Linkedin at www.linkedin.com is another one that is taking off now, but it’s
normally associated with more corporate use as it has a high focus on
employment and connecting with people in similar professions to yourself.

Sorry this is a little rushed, but hopefully it’s a start for now.

Subject: [access-uk] Recommendations social networking

Hi Listers,

I’m thinking of jumping onto the band wagon and going for social networking.
Can anyone recommend which networking program is the most accessible, is it
facebook, twitter or quitter? Or maybe none of the fore mentioned. Also is
their a web site where i can research the best way to get started? Any advice
welcomed.

Jim
